Peter French - Fundraising

"In a mad moment I agreed to take part in the British Red Cross annual Jailed & Bailed event to be hosted by the Right Honourable the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress, Alderman and Mrs David Lewis, on Wednesday 4th June.

I will be arrested at Mansion House, on charges yet to be confirmed, and then be transported by the City of London Police to the Tower of London where I will be incarcerated pending bail. On the condition that I raise £2,000 in bail in support of the British Red Cross by 2.00 pm that day, I will be a free man again ..... but if not, I will be left to sample Her Majesty's hospitality indefinitely!

While I have been assured that I will be made 'as comfortable as possible' if this plea fails , I would implore you to help me by contributing towards my bail regardless of your first thoughts of leaving me there !
Donations can be made online www.justgiving.com/peterfrench-jailedandbailed , alternatively donations can be made out to the
British Red Cross care of myself at 5 , Blackhorse Lane , E17 6DN "

Editor's note - if we raise enough, they may keep him in permanently!

The Security Practitioner Programme for UK-Based Security Officers

The Security Practitioner programme is the ideal development path for security officers. It allows you to evaluate the skills and knowledge of your security officers without disrupting their normal working routines. So, if you have trained your security officers in basic security principles, coached them on site-specific duties and they have gained some valuable practical experience, but you want to test that they are putting into practice what they were taught - then the Security Practitioner programme can help you. You can evaluate their knowledge and skills, you can identify and address additional training needs in a cost-effective manner and the security officer is rewarded for their achievements with a national qualification.

This programme also attracts generous funding from the LSC and Skills for Security have secured a simple method for small and medium sized companies to not only access this funding easily, but also help with the administration process involved. If you would like to learn more about Security Practitioner, Skills for Security are collating initial interest at the moment so that we can organise a series of free regional events throughout the Summer to inform employers about the benefits of the Security Practitioner programme and also discuss the funding opportunities available to you.

If you would like to register your interest to attend one of these events, please e-mail info@skillsforsecurity.org.uk and we will be happy to send you further details

Venue: Vinopolis, London

With the introduction of tighter governance measures, such as the Data Protection Act, Corporate Manslaughter Bill, SOX and Critical Infrastructure Protection, businesses now have a greater duty of care towards their people, assets and data. Failure to meet these guidelines could lead to criminal charges against an organisation and its senior executives, resulting in hefty fines or even imprisonment.

This free half day afternoon seminar will give you a thorough overview of the security challenges that businesses face.

CPP Demand Set to Double Again in 2008

The increase in demand for the CPP Certification has seen the Chapter add an additional examination date (and review programme) to its annual schedule.

Twenty seven candidates are registered to sit the May 3rd examination, and demand is already high for the next examination preparation programme, which begins with distance learning in June, leading to a Nov 1 examination.

The UK now has over 100 “board-certified in security management” CPPs, and applicant numbers are literally doubling on a year-on-year basis. The following sites provide further information on the CPP and how to apply:

ASIS International Security Standards Training 9-10 June 2008 - Vilnius, Lithuania

Standards are an industry's common language of performance and acceptability. Standards help build the 'soft infrastructure' of modern, innovative economies. They provide certainty, references, best practices and benchmarks for designers, engineers and service providers. Standardisation diminishes trade barriers, promotes safety, allows interoperability of products, systems and services, and promotes common technical understanding.

Standards cover a broad range of fields-engineering, telecommunications, textiles, photography, petroleum products, household appliances, and industrial safety to name a few. Core principles of standardisation include openness, due process, transparency, and consensus. The development of standards needs active participation to make them work.

Management system standards are gaining attention globally as tools to manage risks and impacts of intentional and unintentional incidents such as natural disasters, terror, extreme crime, and technology mishaps. Standards will have a profound impact on the security profession.
How You Will Benefit:

Facilitators: Mike Tennent (Tavcom Training), Philip Edwards (retired Board Director of the Dixon's Group), Phil Boskett CPP, PSP (Chief of Security & Safety, International Criminal Court), Eur.Ing. Jon Laws ( senior tutor and security consultant)

The hectic schedule of the modern executive allows little time to absorb and understand today's rapidly evolving technology. This educational workshop provides them with a rare chance to identify, investigate and manually evaluate equipment and services which could determine the success of their business. This workshop is provided by Tavcom Training. Tavcom Training has no affiliation with any individual manufacturer or supplier, allowing independent presenters to demonstrate and discuss the benefits and limitations of a range of equipment without any bias.

Tavcom's Director of Training Mr Mike Tennent will be joined by senior tutor and security consultant Eur.Ing. Jon Laws and Mr Phil Boskett, CPP, PSP, a long-standing security practitioner with 25 years of policing and security experience -nationally and internationally.
Although essentially a "hands-on" event, Mike Tennent will give an overview of some of the new technologies arriving on the international scene and will review the night trials recently conducted with 14 major manufacturers at the Tavcom test site. Jon Laws will look at megapixel technology, issues surrounding CCTV digital recording and storage and networking limitations. Phil Boskett will use case studies to comment on some of the operational and management issues arising from the preparation for, use, control and governance of physical security systems.
A "Question and Answer" session will be chaired by Mr Philip Edwards, retired Board Director of the Dixon's Group. This will provide the opportunity to question our panel of experts on matters arising from the presentations and workshop activities.
